Sometimes a yard just needs a reset. Old mulch breaks down, weeds creep in, and what used to look sharp starts looking tired. That's exactly where this bed was - holding onto debris and fighting a losing battle against weeds.
Here's what we did: pulled out the old mulch and debris, graded the area, cleaned up the edging, and adjusted the drip irrigation lines before anything else went in. Getting that prep work right is what separates a bed that holds up from one that needs to be redone in two years.
Once the ground was ready, we laid heavy-duty landscape fabric and finished with 1.5-inch river rock. That combination is hard to beat for low maintenance. The fabric blocks weeds from the bottom up, and the rock keeps things tidy on top without breaking down the way mulch does over time.
The result is a clean, structured look that matches the character of this property - the existing boulder wall and natural stone on the house actually complement the river rock really well. It's a small upgrade that makes the whole front of the home look more intentional and put-together.
Not every job needs to be a full landscape overhaul. Sometimes the right call is a focused renovation that cleans things up, improves the drainage and edging, and sets the bed up to be as hands-off as possible going forward. That's what we're about.
